Shohini Chaudhuri is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Essex and author of Cinema of the Dark Side: Atrocity and the Ethics of Film Spectatorship (Edinburgh University Press, 2014), Contemporary World Cinema: Europe, the Middle East, East Asia and South Asia (Edinburgh University Press, 2005) and Feminist Film Theorists (Routledge, 2006). She has written widely on the politics and aesthetics of contemporary world cinema, and one of her current research interests is film and human rights.
