I am LSE Fellow in Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. I teach and research on digital media policy and advocacy and open source culture. I was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. I look at how the actions of of hackers, activists and advocates influence the structure, function, and policy environment of the internet, and consider how power and participation shift in new media environments. I've published in Government Information Quarterly, Information Communication and Society, New Media & Society and the Canadian Journal of Communication. My current projects include an analysis of the contribution of grassroots networks to internet governance and an examination of the history and future of the 'open' internet. My future work will be focusing on the role of open-source modes of production within digital media futures.
