Dr. Moya Bailey is a Dean's postdoctoral scholar of Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies and Digital Humanities at Northeastern University. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College and her PhD in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory University. “Redefining Representation: Black Women’s Digital Media Production” is published in the first issue of Oxford Press’s Screen Bodies Journal. In “#transform(ing)DH Writing and Research: An Autoethnography of Digital Humanities and Feminist Ethics,” published in Digital Humanities Quarterly, she analyzes her feminist praxis of eschewing the category of research subjects in favor of building relationships with collaborators. In the journal Palimpsest, “Homolatent Masculinity in Hip Hop Culture,” she explores the ways in which masculine gender performance within hip hop culture takes on what she terms homolatent—rather than homoerotic—valences. Her work focuses on marginalized groups’ use of digital media to promote social justice as acts of self-affirmation and health promotion. She is interested in how race, gender, and sexuality are represented in media and medicine. She currently curates the #transformDH Tumblr initiative in Digital Humanities. She is also the digital alchemist for the Octavia E. Butler Legacy Network.
