Fan Tourism

Theme week organized by Tanya Zuk (Georgia State University).

I first heard the term “fan tourism” when I met David Lavery at the Slayage Conference back in 2008. It was then that I learned that David ran a summer course in the U.K. on fan tourism, at the time he was focused on Lord of the Rings fandom, and more recently he had restructured the course for Doctor Who. I was saddened to learn of Prof. Lavery’s passing this last August, and so, in part, I organized this week’s theme on Fan Tourism at In Media Res as a tribute to my colleague. I hope you enjoy this week’s posts.
