Trumpiness and Auhtoritarianism
One other element here in "Trumpiness" is the authoritarianism. To be clear, so far, Trump has only managed to appeal to a large but vocal minority, one that is attracted to his bluster and his grievance-based claims of white male victimhood. Th ... -
Heat map
Thanks, Ethan, I wanted to include the map but the note was running way too long already. The map certainly imposed a specific narrative about fandom, one that clearly has to do with income disparities. I'd be curious to see how walk-up sales might c ... -
Practical Magic
The constraints imposed by rights are certainly affecting demand (or at least access). I do think that debates over the longevity of the DVD/Blu-Ray format are introducing other complications. There is some evidence that the CD format may be abandoned by ... -

I think that a Gramscian
I think that a Gramscian reading makes sense here. In my paper for MIT5, I wrote about fake trailers and noted that Fox Atomic is doing something similar: inviting participants to make "fake" trailers for upcoming films (28 Weeks Later, etc). Of ... -
I've been thinking about the
I've been thinking about the YouTube debate for a while and I find myself veering between the optimistic position that suggests that there is a power shift taking place here. As you point out, the videos allow people to address the public from their ... -
Tasha, thanks for posting
Tasha, thanks for posting about this interesting documentary project. There is little doubt that the Lou Dobbs crowd is fueling a lot of misinformation and even hatred on this issue, and it's well worth supporting and promoting projects like this one ...
