Tanya Goldman is a PhD candidate in the department of Cinema Studies at New York University. Her research primarily focuses on the history of media distribution, activist documentary, useful cinemas, and nontheatrical film. She approaches media distribution as a political and cultural taste-making practice. Her dissertation considers these concerns via the career of New York Workers Film and Photo League member and independent nontheatrical distributor Tom Brandon (1910-1982). Her work has appeared in Cineaste, Feminist Media Histories, Film History, and most recently - in edited volume Screening Race in American Nontheatrical Film (2019).
