David Ray Carter is a Birmingham, Alabama based film critic. He is the main film reviewer for the nationally distributed Film Fanaddict Magazine and FilmFanaddict.com as well as a contributing editor of NotComing.com, one of Entertainment Weekly’s “Ten Best of the Web: Movies” for 2007 and one of FilmComment's "Best Film Sites." In 2009, David joined the staff of PopMatters.com as a DVD reviewer. David’s primary areas of study are horror, exploitation, and other “fringe” cinemas and he has presented on these topics at Oxford University and Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom and regularly at the Southwest Texas Pop Culture and American Culture Association Conference. The recently released book From the Arthouse to the Grindhouse (2010, Scarecrow Press) features a chapter by David entitled “’It’s Only a Movie?’: Reality as Transgression in Exploitation Cinema.”
