Julia Peres Guimaraes is a PhD student in Screen Cultures at Northwestern University. Julia holds an M.A. in Political Science (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa), an M.A. in International Relations (PUC-Rio, Brazil), and a BSc in International Relations & History from the London School of Economics and Political Science. As an undergraduate and masters student, Julia specialized in Cold War film, global politics and media, and mental illness/(dis)ability in film and TV. Currently, her research focus is in Afro- and LatinX-futurism, speculative fiction, Black feminist theory and queer of color critique in TV and music videos.
