Alexa Scarlata is a postgraduate student in the School of Culture and Communication at The University of Melbourne, Australia. Alexa’s research considers the achievements and constraints evident in the recent history of online television in Australia, particularly as this pertains to local drama production and policy. She has presented her research at international conferences and is the Book Review Editor of the Journal of Digital Media and Policy. Her recent publications include book and conference reviews in the International Journal of Digital Television and Communications: The European Journal of Communication Research, and ‘Locating SVOD in Australia and Mexico: Stan and Blim contend with Netflix’ (with Sofia Rios) in Critical Studies in Television 13(4). Alexa has completed annual audits of the availability and discoverability of Australian content on subscription video on demand services with Ramon Lobato since 2017 and is currently working on an RMIT/QUT-partnered Discovery Project, ‘Internet-distributed television: cultural, industrial and policy dynamics’.
