Aaron Sachs is Associate Professor of Media Technologies and Culture at St. Mary’s College of California. His work focuses on the intersection of media and culture with a particular emphasis on hip-hop, race, gender, sexuality, and film. His dissertation, The Hip-hopsploitation Film Cycle, examined the filmic articulation of hip-hop in the mid-1980s, when the sub-culture was first emerging into mainstream America. Dr. Sachs has also published on queer families, and hip-hop, feminism, heterosexual desire, and pornography. He is currently examining mediated discourses in the Latin American food industry, with a focus on Andean quinoa and Nicaraguan cacao/chocolate.
