The bulk of my work to this point has focused on the intersections of race, popular music, and globalization, and particularly on African-American impacts both in the United States and Japan. I'm currently pursuing research that delves more deeply into communication technology, including technologies of sound, finance, and space. I earned my PhD from the University of Iowa in 2010, spent a year in Tokyo under the auspices of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and currently serve as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of South Florida. I blog on culture at mindslikeknives.blogspot.com.
