Kalervo A. Sinervo has an Interdisciplinary Humanities PhD from Concordia University, where he wrote his dissertation on how videogames can be accounted for in transmedia theory, using Batman games as examples. In 2019, he began a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary researching fan conventions, pop culture magazines, and adapting his thesis into a book.
