Libertad Gills is a filmmaker, writer and teacher. She is a tenured film professor at the Universidad de las Artes in Ecuador where she teaches Film Criticism and Analysis & Aesthetics and organizes screenings and talks with filmmakers and artists. She collaborates with the bilingual film journal Desistfilm and is on the editorial board of the Universidad de las Artes' film journal Fuera de Campo. Her articles on film have been published in Senses of Cinema, Short Film Studies, La Furia Umana, among other journals and magazines, and she has a chapter on amateur filmmaking in Guayaquil in the forthcoming publication "Small(er) Cinema of the Andes: New Aesthetics, Practices and Platforms". She is currently completing her dissertation on experimental archival cinema at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and preparing a book of conversations with contemporary Latin American film critics.
