After attending Boğaziçi University, Murat Akser got his BA in English and an MA in History. He had his formal training in filmmaking at Directors Guild of Turkey from renowned film directors. He studied film at York University where he got his MFA in Film. Since 1999 he has been teaching film production and media studies at York University, Ryerson University, University of Toronto and Kadir Has University. He has directed music videos and short films for Ronin Media and Entertainment Inc. Murat Akser worked as programmer at Toronto International Film Festival and as coordinator at Canadian Film Centre. As a cameraman he worked in major Hollywood productions and he is a member of IATSE International Cinematographers Guild and Canadian Academy of Film and Television. Akser also holds a PhD from York University in communication and culture. He currently teaches film production at University of Ulster.
