Throughout my life, I have worked in two arenas--the humanities (English, Writing, Theatre, Music) for personal and spiritual fulfillment and librarianship for income. Time has been my challenge (fitting it all in!). As a result, Theatre has languished in recent years, but I continue to write and sing in my creative life. My creative life and credits (writing) can be viewed at http://alinesoules.wordpress.com and my latest book, Meditation on Woman, published by Anaphora Literary Press, is available at http://www.amazon.com/Meditation-Woman-Aline-Soules/dp/1937536130. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and sing with various choirs to fulfill my music life.
In my library life, I am a librarian / professor at California State University, East Bay. In that role, I and my colleagues teach information literacy to our incoming first year students (required two-credit course) and participate in the usual work of librarians (collection development, reference, teaching in various classes for discipline faculty in assigned liaison areas). I am fortunate to be assigned to our English Department, which includes literature, creative writing, writing/composition across the curriculum, TESOL, and various writing activities related to our tutoring center. I also participate in the usual research and publication requirements of faculty (see http://sites.google.com/site/alinesoules/academic-cv) and engage in service to the university through our academic senate and other committees.
It's a full life and I have been grateful to have the opportunities to continue working in both arenas. This alt-academy has inspired me to write an article on how these two lives function both together and apart, which I plan to do over the summer and offer to this group.
