Catherine Grant is an independent scholar, film critic and filmmaker, and also works as a guest speaker and artist, research consultant and supervisor, and external examiner. She was Professor of Digital Media and Screen Studies at Birkbeck, University of London, based in the Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies in the School of Arts, until August 2020 when she was appointed as Honorary Research Fellow in that School. She is also an Honorary Professor at Aarhus Universitet, in the School of Communication and Culture - Media Studies, and a Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Arts and Communication Design at the University of Reading, UK. As a researcher and critic, Grant mostly makes and reflects on video essays about films and other audiovisual media. She is also author of the Open Access scholarly website Film Studies For Free. In 2020, she was elected member of Academia Europaea’s Film, Media and Visual Studies section.
